The Jedi Code conflicted with Radaki's belief that the Jedi should retain their family ties and wealth, and he eventually became one of the Lost Twenty. The Sith were in danger of extinction due to a combination of infighting [13] and their war against the Jedi. Bane's reformation was a resilient legacy that lasted for a millennium , creating a lineage of Sith Lords that culminated in Darth Sidious during the era of the Galactic Republic.
Sidious had given the title of "Darth Vader" to Anakin Skywalker because at the time he believed that the fallen Jedi was worthy of bearing a Sith name.
Having grown more doubtful of his apprentice, Sidious required Vader to prove that he was still worthy of his title by overcoming the obstacles in his path to Sith ascendancy. The prophesied destruction of the Sith [4] came to pass when Darth Sidious and Darth Vader destroyed each other , ending the thousand-year lineage that began with Darth Bane.
Although the First Order and the Resistance referred to him by his family name , Palpatine, [25] this time Sidious made no effort to conceal his Sith identity, [11] declaring that the Final Order would usher in the rise of an eternal Sith Empire.

Breakfast food is life and coffee is what makes the world go round. It was great. By Adrienne Tyler Published Aug 10, Share Share Tweet Email 0. Bit like Chinese whisper. However there is a word spelled Dearth. In this case the meaning of Dearth is 'a scarcity or lack of something'. Now for the Veda or Vaeda part.
Given that Obi-Wan was the first to use Darth in front of Veda's name I see this as a subtle and clever addition on the part of the Obi-Wan's character and of course the writers to reverse the meaning of Veda or Vaeda to know to one who lacks knowing. Get it!? Quite witty and clever really. And wherever the inspiration for the name came from, it works either way. Not trying to be Freudian here, but whenever art is created, even the artist often doesn't really know where everything is coming from.
Who's to say that "Darth Vader" didn't subconsciously hit on some murky paternal, patriarchal theme before it was someone's overt idea Late to the conversation but I would take this in a different direction. Given the whole concept of the "Force" being the source of good, and God is generally referred to as the Father, it would stand to reason that the head of all evil would be referred to as the Dark Father". Just think in a different direction. Yes it means Dark Father and Anak was the father of the Anakims we are like grasshoppers in their sight also is an anagram -Darth Vader - the ard vard ard is German for Hard or Hardy and Vard is from Persian word for Rose.
I thought Sith names were based loosely on Latin words for bad-ass things. Then rule of 2 master chooses name of apprentice using masters SW language to create names like Darth Sidious. Like that Sith is insidious. That explanation has kept me happy for 40 years. As for the article, thanks for the information. What people don't seem to have mentioned is that the name Darth Vader first appeared in , in Lucas's rough draft of Star Wars, as a villain.
In that draft, not only is he not anyone's father, there are actually a father Kane Starkiller and a son Annakin. So that puts to rest any notion that Lucas ever had thought up the name Darth Vader as having the hidden meaning of "dark father". Combine that with what has already being cited regarding the ghost of Luke's good father being in the first draft of ESB, and the most plausible reality is that Lucas and Kasdan came up with the idea when writing the 2nd draft of ESB.
Even if Invader does mean that, a father becomes a father by invading the womb and giving his own living cells inside. And the mother then births new life I mean the force. And also the dutch already knew he was going to be the Father. I think this came from a greater power than Lucas man, as stupid as it sounds.
Art,poetry, philosophy, machines, sciences I mean all of man's creations have mimicked a greater reality and have even nailed future reality. I use to think it ws nerdy stuff but when I saw Liam Neeson Ewan McGregor and the Anakin actors unfold the story so packed with this treasure of the keys to the future it captivated me.
Lucas most likely conceived of the father twist in after McQuarrie designed Vader's look in the opening scene. Lucas decided that Vader would be hidden under a mask the entire film. Ergo there's a mystery there to be revealed. Before then Vader didn't have any kind of backstory in the previous drafts. He gets killed and that's about it. He completed the third draft in August of It contains most of the elements of the backstory that was in the final film with two exceptions: 1.
Luke knew his dad before he was killed in the same battle where Ben says a pupil of his became a Sith Lord. That pupil is later revealed to be Vader. Vader is not said to be Annikin Starkiller's murderer. That part is left vague. Then in the climax, Vader tells Luke over the comlink, "I have this feeling I know you.
Had we met earlier, you would not be here. While it's possible Vader is someone else entirely, no other character from Luke's past is ever mentioned. If you were only following the bread crumbs laid down in this script.
There's only one possibility. Vader was Annikin Starkiller in this draft 6 months before Star Wars began shooting. End of discussion. I think I'll take Lucas' word over yours. You're wholly ignorant of mythology and it shows. Sep 19, No, I am your father!
Darth Vader's name was not a clue that he was Luke's father George Lucas lies. Or rather he spreads myth and legend about Star Wars. For instance, he once said he has written 12 Star Wars movies. But no, he didn't. And what about the claim that Darth Vader was always Luke's father? Lucas has said that the meaning of Darth Vader's name was 'Dark Father' by way of a loose Dutch translation.
Both those language meanings are simply incidental. Lucas has been quoted as saying: "'Darth' is a variation of dark. And 'Vader' is a variation of father. So it's basically Dark Father. All the names have history, but sometimes I make mistakes -- Luke was originally going to be called Luke Starkiller, but then I realized that wasn't appropriate for the character.
It was appropriate for Anakin, but not his son. I said, 'Wait, we can't weigh this down too much -- he's the one that redeems him. I said he lies but he's really spreading myth about the lore of Vader as he had no idea Vader was Luke's father until at the earliest point of the second draft of Empire's script. When Lucas was drafting Star Wars he wrote lots of stories and then he wrote even more stories and permutations of those stories with characters, some green, some goblins but there was always two separate characters of Anakin Skywalker or Starkiller if you want to be really clear on the point and Darth Vader.
That part of drafting stage was eventually turned into a graphic comic book! No sign in any of that work that Vader was Starkiller's dad. The first draft of Empire was written by Leigh Bracket based on direction given by Lucas. Read it for yourself. See, there's no mention of the relationship at all.
At ALL. Lucas, nor Brackett, had simply not conceived of the idea. It was not until Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan both were well advanced on the script for The Empire Strikes Back that the characters of Anakin and Darth were merged to make them one character. So the reality is there was no clever clue about Vader's origins or even a play on words to give Vader his so called Dutch translation. Rather, Darth is probably just a cool name that Lucas made up or cribbed from somewhere - he did this with Jedi and Sith from Edgar Rice Burrough's works.
Update: Based on the comments below thanks for chipping in guys and gals! I've tightened it up a bit and added more explanation. It's our firm view that the reasoning in this article is sound. Lucas did not intend for the name Darth Vader to mean "Dark Father" by way of a clever word translation - this based on the fact that at the time of writing the first Star Wars script he had no idea himself that Darth Vader was to become Luke's father.
It was not a hint, nor part of a long game. We believe any other argument that cannot counter this is somewhat redundant in terms of it being a clue as to Vader's parenthood as being a dark father. By all means, feel free to disagree but I urge you to think freely and rationally. Name callers merely look stupid, you jerks. Want to read some more sweet things about Darth Vader?
