Sexual content in this film will likely be the greatest concern for parents. However some positive messages are extolled after an adult, who is given the opportunity to be 17 again, recognizes and begins to teach about the role of sex and the importance of waiting until you are married.
A teen girl decides to leave her boyfriend when he asks for sex. Frequent sexual innuendo and discussions about pregnancy are heard often between teen characters.
A teen girl makes advances toward a teen boy, not recognizing he is her father. Men engage in a fight using swords and other medieval implements. A teen boy is slapped multiple times. Teens bully a boy and engage in fistfights. Men use a red light to imitate a police officer and drive through traffic. Crude anatomical terms are used, along with derogatory sexual language relating to older women. Infrequent mild profanities and terms of deity are used as expletives.
Teen drinking depicted at a house party. I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard in a movie! I thought the lessons learned at the end of the movie were wonderful. Great show! Okay for older kids A few girls are portrayed as tramps who throw themselves at Zac Efron's character, Mark--including the girl who is his daughter but she doesn't know that "Mark" is her dad as a 17 year old.
Mark is a good role model who tries to talk them into respecting themselves and attempts to persuade kids to delay sex until they are older. He also defends kids who are bullied. Parent of a 8 and year-old Written by purljam August 20, If your child is emotionally mature I, as a 43 year old, have to say that I absolutely loved this movie My 12 year old daughter watched the movie with me, and while she is, and always has been mature for her age, I do have to say that there were a couple of times where I paused the movie because she had immediate questions.
I was happy to explain them. Once the movie was over, I did make a point to take 10 minutes to discuss some positive points the movie brought up ie, teenage sex leading to pregnancy and appreciation for parents. I believe the bottom line is It was seriously hilarious! DO take the time to either discuss things during the movie or afterwards.
Not appropriate for any teen under 17 This movie is definitely inappropriate for ANYONE under 17, as there are just too many inappropriate role model scenes. Yes, there is ONE positive message in this film about sex before marriage, but the teens having too much fun is definitely more dramatized than the consequece of having a baby before marriage.
Girls acting promiscuous is not something that should be dramatized to any young girl.
